Sorry, Howie Long. We really like you as a Fox announcer. Really! All you other guys, too. But the women have spoken. And your books and commentary just aren’t enough! The Lipstick Football League wants something more. So for my book, “Lipstick FootballTM,” I’m rolling up my sleeves and creating a football language that’s easy to understand. From A to Z, I’m breaking down plays, positions, and penalties. I’m incorporating questions and stories from Lipstick Football fans. I’m going to redefine the language of football for the rest of us! We’re the Lipstick Football League. Sure, we may have a lot to learn, but there’s no reason we can’t have fun along the way!

Superbowl weekend. I’m in Las Vegas and everyone is talking about the game. That is to say, men are talking about the game. In a few short minutes, I meet men who come from every corner of the country and then some––California, Texas, New York, and even Canada––just to watch the Superbowl game together. What is that about? Is it a primal urge for the male species to connect with physical displays of strength? Or is it tribal, the need to unite around an activity they call their own?

We immerse ourselves, game after game, play after play, struggling with strategies, trying to recognize referees’ calls, or follow John Madden’s impromptu diagrams. Yet for many of us, the game is still not quite our own. While some women play touch or tackle football today, most don’t or haven’t had the opportunity to lace shoulder pads, fit a football helmet, or create teeth guards in their team colors….
